Quality of wood
Depending on the cut wood relief, various qualities of wood are sold at different prices. Generally, we can say that the logs are as more expensive as their diameter is bigger, as the log is more straight, as there are less knots of branches and as colour is more uniform. Whether on what concerns uniformity of colour, from our point of view, compromises can be made (the subsequent aging process with outdoor furniture which changes the colour to grey reduces the importance of this parameter), but the minimum diameter must have a certain dimension and there must not be too many knots due to branches.
Wood Thickness
Beside the quality of wood, quality of product depends mainly on the thickness / proper dimensioning of the wooden components. Cheap furniture is often reduced to a minimum dimension to achieve an optically attractive price, on the account of the life expectancy of furniture. Due to the ageing process, causing the wood to become more sharp and breakable, deteriorations and/or collapse are more likely after a certain period of time when components are under-dimensioned. Here, too, we can apply the English proverb "You get what you pay for".
Here is an example which illustrates this fact: if a cheap table has legs with dimensions of 50x50cm and our tables have, in comparison, dimensions of 60x60cm, the wood consume is 40% higher, therefore the expenses for wood are also 40% higher. These additional expenses pay off over time, as these legs are still stable after years and the table can be used for a much longer time, while the cheap table is already worn out.
It is anyway the client’s decision how much money they would like to spend, but it is our aim to inform potential clients as good as possible with respect to these aspects. |
