Environmental aspects in Indonesia

Indonesia, "the lion’s share" concerning teak wood furniture manufacturing, is a developing country with specific problems to this type of state: environment deterioration, corruption, increase in population, etc. Even if, due to poverty, greed, lack of control and corruption, illegal wood is surely used in furniture and wood sector industry, we must specify that PERHUTANI, the forestry state owned company is obeyed to certain very drastic provisions by government and drastic measures have been applied lately (very severe punishments) against illegal wood cutting.

These measures leaded to an improvement of the situation and sensible reduction of illegal wood trade. We must not draw the conclusion that there is no other potential to improve the situation. Still we must underline that the situation improved considerably and there are reasons to be optimistic.
